Hello
My journey into becoming a funeral celebrant began in an unexpected yet deeply meaningful way.
After my mother passed, my father remarried during COVID. When lockdown eased, my stepmother asked me to officiate their blessing ceremony. I was honoured to be asked, yet somewhat apprehensive, this was a BIG deal for me.
I collected myself, gathered some words straight from my heart, guided them through the service, and the response I received was overwhelming. That moment planted a seed!
Inspired by the experience, I trained with Civil Ceremonies to become a funeral celebrant. The training was intense, especially the week-long face-to-face course, but it confirmed that I had found my calling.
Since taking the plunge, I’ve never looked back. Being able to support families during one of the most vulnerable and painful times of their lives feels like the greatest honour. Helping to ease even a small part of their burden, giving them space to focus on what they need to, is a privilege I never take lightly.
One of my favourite aspects of this work is listening to the incredible stories of people’s lives, tales from wartime generations, military service, resilience, humour, love, and everything in between. Every life offers a snapshot of history and humanity. To be entrusted with these stories, and to shape a ceremony that reflects someone’s essence, fills me with a sense of purpose and great pride that’s hard to put into words.
All I can say is that I feel blessed to do this work. It’s fulfilling, meaningful, and something I truly love to do.
